A stylized close-up of rock, moss, and ferns growing in deep shade near the confluence of Deer Creek and the Yuba River. It's outside the mouth of a horizontal mine shaft, its floor flows with water, tunneling into the mountain. Black Swan Preserve is one of the epicenters of hydraulic mining in Nevada County, near Timubctoo and Smartsville.
